The iconic Maracanã, one of the most famous stadiums in the world, will stage the Rio 2016 Olympic Games opening and closing ceremonies, plus the decisive stages of both the men's and women's Olympic football tournaments. Originally constructed for the 1950 FIFA World Cup, the Maracanã was upgraded for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It hosted seven matches during the 2014 tournament and became only the second stadium in the world to host two World Cup Finals after Mexico City's Estadio Azteca.
