Athlete Biography

Ryan Broekhoff will get the chance to make his Olympic debut in Rio after being one of the final two players cut from the London 2012 Team.

Broekhoff began playing when he was six after both his parents played at high levels in the sport. He would eventually head to the US to have a four-year stint in the college system with the Valporaiso Crusaders where he averaged 16 points and over 7 rebounds in his final season and help take the side to the coveted NCAA tournament.

He went undrafted in the 2013 NBA draft and went to play for Beistkas where he eventually became an all-star in the Turkish league. He won Summer Universiade silver with the Australian side before getting the chance to start for his country at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Broekhoff moved to Russian side Lokomotiv Kuban in 2015 where he has had the chance to hone his skills in both the domestic competition as well as helping his side make the final four in the EuroLeague competition.

Having become a regular in the national side, Broekhoff started both 2015 Oceania Championship matches for Australia as they secured their spot at the 2016 Olympic Games after defeating New Zealand.
