Athlete Biography

Paul Adams secured his Olympic debut by becoming one of only two Australians to shoot a benchmark score and win one of the three Australian selection events. Having shot a skeet qualification score of 122, Adams won the Australia Cup 2 event in Sydney to book his ticket to Rio.

He began shooting at the age of ten when his grandfather got him into the sport. He switched to the Olympic discipline of skeet in 2010 with a goal of making his Olympic debut in 2012. He just missed out on making the London team and would need to wait another four years to get his chance to live out his dream.

Having finished fourth at the 2014 Tucson World Cup event, he went on to compete at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Adams shot the second highest qualification score to move into the six-man final. With the scores reset, Adams shot 11 out of the 16 targets missing out on the bronze-medal shoot-off by a single target.

Adams missed only one target in qualification at the 2015 National Championships, shooting a new personal best of 124/125 targets on his way to becoming national champion. The result qualified him for the 2015 World Championships where he was disappointed to finish 27th.

He has balanced his shooting commitments with his studies and recently graduated as a registered nurse. He has taken on a role in his home city of Brisbane in a public hospital.
