Athlete Biography

As one of the newest and youngest players in the Hockeyroos squad, Mariah Williams will join a team of mostly debutants when she competes in her maiden Olympic Games in Rio 2016.

At just 17 years of age, the forward received her first international cap during a test serried against Korea in Perth. However she placed her hockey career on pause just long enough to graduate from high school.

She secured her regular fixture in the Australian team during 2015, when she competed in every major international tournament, winning gold in the Oceania Cup, bronze in the World League Semi-Final and placing sixth in the World League Final.

Born in Parkes in Central West NSW, Williams grew up loving touch football and soccer, as well as hockey. She has always admired, duel Olympian and teammate Casey Sablowski for her talent and mentoring capabilities.

Williams helped Australia to a 3-2 victory over China during an early 2016 series, but had to sit out the 2016 International Hockey Open in Darwin in June due to a knee injury. However was back in the squad for the 2016 Champions Trophy in London where Australia placed 4th.
