Athlete Biography

Six years after making her national team debut in 2010, defensive veteran Laura Alleway will get the chance to compete at her first Olympic Games at Rio.

Alleway has spent most of her club career in the W-League where she won a championship and premiership with both the Brisbane Roar and Melbourne City. Along with a short stint in England in 2012, she also lined up for the Orlando Pride in the US this season.

Having played sparingly at the 2011 World Cup, Alleway lined up in all five matches for Australia at the 2015 tournament. As a part of a strong defensive unit, she helped the side claim their first knockout phase win in a World Cup when they held Brazil scoreless in their 1-0 round of 16 victory.

Alleway proved crucial as Australia progressed through to the Rio Olympics undefeated in their qualifiers. The side only conceded three goals in six matches to see them book their spot at their third Games and first since Athens 2004.

Off the pitch Alleway is a keen pianist who has reached grade 7.
