Athlete Biography

A veteran of over 60 appearances for her country, striker Kyah Simon will get the chance to make her Olympic debut at Rio having been in the national set up for eight years.

Having grown up in Sydney’s west, she made her international debut against Hong Kong at the age of 16 and soon after became the first Indigenous woman to score for the senior national team.

She slotted home the decisive penalty as Australia won their first Asian Cup in 2010 before making her World Cup debut a year later. At the tournament she scored a brace against Norway as Australia qualified for the quarter-finals.

Simon was crucial to Australia’s historic run at the 2015 Women’s World Cup. She scored both goals in Australia’s 2-0 win over Nigeria helping the side make the knockout phase of the competition before her goal against Brazil saw the Australian side progress to the quarter-finals.

Simon kept up her goal-scoring ways at the Rio qualifiers, scoring a hat-trick against Vietnam and the opening goal in the side’s 2-0 win over South Korea as the Aussie team went through undefeated and qualified for their first Olympic Games since 2004.
