Athlete Biography

2015 Hockeyroo Player of the year, Jodie Kenny (nee Shulz), will once again prove why she was awarded the prestigious title when the defender makes her second Olympic appearance in Rio 2016.

The Queenslander scored the first goal in the opening round of her debut Games in London, where Australia defeated China 2-0. Australia finished the tournament in fifth place.

In 2014 the defender was awarded the Hockeyroos World Cup Player of the Tournament after she helped Australia win silver in the Netherlands. The same year she won gold with the squad at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Kenny is the reigning Hockeyroo Top Goal Scorer, first taking out the title in 2014 (29 goals) and defending it in 2015 (22 goals).

Known for her impressive penalty corners, Kenny is one of six children in the Schulz family that play hockey. As a pre-international match ritual, she has to play Horses by Daryl Braithwate before she takes the pitch.

Aside from spending time with her husband Shane, Kenny enjoys spoiling her dog, Bruce the Bull Mastiff. She has a certificate three and four in fitness and is currently studying for a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, with the aim to work in the sport and exercise industry in the future.
