Athlete Biography

Heming Hu will make his Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games in the men’s teams event after performing strongly at the Australian Olympic Trials.

Hu began playing table tennis when he was seven in his family garage and after his brother got involved in the local Dandenong competition he followed.

He missed out on representing Australia at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games by one spot.

Hu made his first Commonwealth Games appearance in Glasgow in 2014. He finished 9th in both the men’s doubles, 17th in the mixed doubles and 5th in the team event which also included Rio 2016 teammates Heming Hu and Xin Yan.

Needing to finish in the top two at the Oceania Championships to give himself a chance at a singles berth in Rio, Hu went down to David Powell in seven sets and eventually finished fourth at the competition.
