Athlete Biography

24-year-old trampoline gymnast Blake Gaudry has his eye on going one step further than his Olympic debut four years ago when he takes to the Rio Olympic Arena in Barra.

Originally from Sydney, Gaudry finished in 13th place at London. In the first stage of qualification, the set routine, Gaudry produced a blistering performance to finish in 9th place. The performance had him in sight of the medals however in the voluntary routine, Gaudry fell on the seventh of his 10 skills, finishing 13th overall and missing the 8-man final.

At the 2015 World Championships Gaudry, who had gone in with a less than ideal preparation due to a stomach bug, finished in 14th place which was not automatic qualification for the Games, but was enough to give Australia a second chance to qualify for the Games at the Rio Test Event.

Coached by Nikolay Zhuravlev and his son Viktor Zhuravlev, Gaudry secured Australia a spot with a strong performance at the Test Event in April. Gaudry scored 48.630 in his set routine followed by 55.915 in his voluntary, for a combined total of 104.545 at the end of the qualification round, finishing within the top five countries who had not already secured a berth at the Games to qualify the position.

He faced tough competition from fellow Australians Shaun Swadling, Ty Swadling and Jack Penny to cement his place on the 2016 Team, winning the Australian Championships to come out on top.
