Athlete Biography

Ashley Stoddart will make her Olympic debut in Rio in the laser radial at the famous Copacabana area on the Marina da Gloria.

It’s a full circle for the Queenslander’s sailing career, having first represented Australia at a worlds in Brazil at the 2009 Youth World Championships in Buzios.

Coached by Jared West since 2014, Stoddart secured Australia a quota spot for the Games when she finished 11th at the 2015 World Championships in Mussanah, Oman.

The Occupational Therapy University Student counts 470 sailors Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinson winning gold at the 2008 Beijing Games as inspiration for her to pursue her Olympic dream.

Not content with being a standout athlete, Stoddart spends her spare time playing the piano.
